THE BOY OF MANY COLORS

Releases New Single ‘Good Mourning’+Companion Video

Hydrofunk Records are excited to announcethe new release for THE BOY OF MANY COLORS, with hislatest single‘Good Mourning’available on all digital platforms Hereon Friday September 9.

This latest single is lifted from his forthcoming debut album due for release in early 2023.

Delving into the yarn about past wrong doings and First Nations challenges living in the colony, ‘Good Mourning’ is THE BOY OF MANY COLORS, deepest, realest, and rawest story yet.

It’s a hard conversation to stomach, but something that needed to be said before this young Bama man showcases and celebrates his culture further. He eloquently yet brutally touches your spirit with the harsh truth of so-called Australia’s past. So as to make known the past before moving into the future, recognising the reality of the landscape before continuing the practices of this living culture.Venting pent up passion, clearing his ‘mental’ before venturing forth on his journey of artistry.

Shot at Wirrim Studio in Burleigh Heads, the powerful companionvideo depicts a galleryspace full of cultural art and artefacts, wherea crowd are guided on a tour of the colourful heavenly lit space by THE BOY OF MANY COLORS.Scattered between the beautiful representations of culture are First Nation people who represent the aftermath of colonisation. Themes like depression, alcoholism, domestic violence, and police brutality and all seen in the characters in the space. The crowd cannot see these people at first and are blind to these hardships, they only see the art and magic. This speaks on the way so called ‘Australia’ is today. Many people will turn a cold shoulder or shy away from First Nations issues and only seek the beauty.

THE BOY OF MANY COLORS(Coedie McCarthy) is an artist, musician, filmmaker, songwriter, producer, traditional and modern dancer, and is also a founding member, vocalist and Didgeridoo player with Byron Bay based 4-peice Indigenoise. A multi-talented visionary who is pushing boundaries, his quest is to bring the old ways of his ancestors into the new age.

Victory – Calski ft Hau

Victory began during house sitting at DJ Bacon’s joint. Sitting in his
studio going through some records while my daughter was having a nap,
I found a gospel album and chopped up some keys, vocals and got the
groove happening with the “Victory” vocal sample in it. I thought it
could be a cool concept so emailed it to Hau. He nailed it. He took
the verses to a really cool place by unpacking his ideas on Victory
and how to share the winnings.

The animated lyric video is produced by Jozzelle from Ellephant
Studios. She’s really talented. I gave her a brief which was
basically, cruising in an old 80’s car that bounces to the beat. She
did the rest. Very talented!!

The band have also released the fourth single from the album ‘One Mob’ and the companion video.  ‘One Mob’ is the celebration of all people of earth. ‘We may be separated by race, religion and sexuality but we are united as human beings. One Mob is our anthem to sing up EVERY human’s experience.’  The music video is also a collection of just that. With people from all over the world and all walks of life being proud of who they are and representing themselves with love.

The album features the band’s stunning debut single ‘Wildfire’ which reached #1 on the triple j unearthed Electronic and Hip Hop charts, and an impressive #4 on the overall Chart days after it was uploaded in July 2017. It also features the follow-up single ‘Euphoria’, and third single ‘The New Code’ which was the band’s ode to change.

Based in Byron Bay, INDIGENOISE are a clique of Indigenous poets, artists, producers, musicians and practitioners. The five-piece featuring Coedie McCarthy, Minjarrah Jarrett, Roslyn Barnett, Jannali Doncaster and Benjamin Robinson, all who carry mixed ancestry, represent the  4 nations.

Giving voice to indigenous youth from all different backgrounds, INDIGENOISE have also taken audiences by storm with a show that powerfully brings together the worlds of traditional ceremony and dance with contemporary Hip Hop.

You can catch INDIGENOISE performing at Island Vibes on Friday October 26, Saturday October 27, and Sunday October 28, and at Dragon Dreaming on Saturday November 3.   The band will also be playing additional shows for AIME Australia on Friday November 16 at the Lismore Uni, and on Friday November 30 at the Rekindle spirit Block party in Goonellabah.

Gung Fu” sees Tigermoth combining his love of Hip Hop, and Eastern Philosophies, together with the martial arts film and television of his childhood. Utilising traditional eastern samples, 60s and 70s Bollywood soundtracks, along with zen themed vocal narratives, Gung Fu could best be described as RZA meets Tarrantino somewhere in a Shaolin Temple. It is the soundtrack of an as yet realised film, or the musical version of a graphic novel. Tigermoth new album ‘Gung Fu’ out Friday September 28 new single ‘Sun Wu Kong’+ companion video + announce East Coast Tour dates

Hydrofunk recording artist Tigermoth returns with a new single‘Sun Wu Kong’, set for releaseon Friday September 28.‘Sun Wu Kong’ is the second single from Tigermoth’s ‘Gung Fu’ album, which is due for Vinyl only release on Friday September 28through Hydrofunk Records / Keep The FeelEntertainment, with Worldwide digital distribution through Alpha Pup Records.

The companion video was shot using 16mm film lenses and pays homage to Tigermoth’s childhood hero ‘SunWu Kong’ aka ‘The Monkey King’. It takes its artistic inspiration from low budget 70s and 80s martial arts film, both of which are passions of this multi-talented producer from Melbourne, Australia.

Somewhere in the musical ether that connects arrays of genres, you’ll find Tigermoth floating through sounds, and feeding off different eras. A healthy dose of Electric Jazz, Boom Bap, psychadelica, world music, and LA beats, make up his musical diet. Born in the Chinese year of the Tiger, Tigermoth’s (a.k.a. Tim Paterson) beats take you on an aural journey. He is a multi-instrumentalist who chooses to express himself using turntables, samplers and FX. His intelligent mixing attests his abstract turntabilism, while his film background and jazz leanings allow him to compose sets that tell a story.

PEGZ & SILENT TITAN
E Q U I L I B R I U M

Hydrofunk Records proudly announces the Pegz and Silent Titan Album EQUILIBRIUM,. First single Equilibrium feats the singing Talents of Jace XL well known for his work amongst the Melbourne soul communities with his music partner Silent Jay X and also working with Hiatus Kaiyote.

The ideas of EQUILIBRIUM on a personal, environmental, philosophical and political level are the albums main concepts. The ideas outlined are an attempt to give power back to the people, to make listeners think about their actions and highlight both achievements and mistakes the average person and ‘ great ‘ people have made in the past and present. There is an element of hope in humanity, while outlining the devastating fact that most people on the planet are not doing enough to help our plight as a community.

Our idea to travel over 3 continents to make EQUILIBRIUM made Pegz and I the outsiders, entering communities we were not familiar with. Our travel was research into how the rest of the world lives and feels towards their current environment. As well as being an insight into creating relationships with people who could relate to what we wanted to say with this project.

Day in day out during our time away, we were gaining inspiration through the people we crossed paths with, the architecture, the museums, the art galleries, the shows we saw, the food we ate, the books we read, the everyday and the dynamics of friendships. Every day we were away, we made and wrote music inspired by our surroundings.

Equilibrium, inspired by the people who fight to be resistant and make sacrifices to better their living conditions for both themselves and the people around them.

Indigenoise release ‘The New Code’ single & companion video
+ Announce Debut Album ‘Old Ways New Age’ out Friday October 19

Indigenous Australian Hip Hop act Indigenoise are excited to share their brand-new single ‘The New Code’, out Friday August 24 through Hydrofunk Records. The band have also announced their debut album ‘Old Ways New Age’ will hit shelves October 19.

Produced by band member Coedie McCarthy and recorded at Hydrofunk HQ in Byron Bay, this third single from Indigenoise is the band’s ode to change. ‘The new code is about the matrix encompassing the globe. So many people are caught up in the black mirrors of this world.’

Indigenoise hope to insert a ‘new code’ into this realm, utilising the digital world to create a positive virus to change the nature of the people. Reflecting the message, the video sees the band roaming through this digital world interacting with the energies and entity’s. ‘Our totems (spirit animal guides) guide us through the smoke and mirrors to a final place where we meet up and synergise. The new code is then projected to the outside natural world with a golden pulse like liquid sunlight!’

Indigenoise represents four different cultures within its ranks, from indigenous Australia to the Vikings of the far north. Giving a voice to indigenous youth from all different backgrounds, the band have taken audiences by storm with a show that powerfully brings together the worlds of traditional ceremony and dance with contemporary Hip Hop.

Heralding a massive moment in the musical evolution of the band, Indigenoise have scored a gig at Burning Man, the world’s biggest alternative festival held annually in the Nevada desert. Performing on three stages during the week-long festival which runs from August 26 to September 4, the band will bring their raw, conscious hip-hop to thousands of people from all over the world.

Tigermoth releases new single ‘The Phantom’ + companion video

Hydrofunk recording artist Tigermoth is excited to be back with a brand-new single ‘The Phantom’, set for release on Friday August 3. ‘The Phantom’ is the first single from Tigermoth’s upcoming LP ‘Gung Fu’ (released on Hydrofunk/Keep the Feel Entertainment distributed by Alphapup) scheduled for release later this year.

As with the album the ‘The Phantom’ video is a sampled collage of East meets West, that takes it cues from Tarantino ‘pulp’ as much as it does Hip Hop. Utilising some upbeat 70s Bollywood funk, and Zen Buddhist inspired narration, ‘The Phantom’ perfectly introduces the themes of ‘Gung Fu’ – evil and good, life and death, yin and yang, but carries its story through the lens of a comic book aesthetic, both entertaining and subversively enlightening.

His intelligent mixing attests his abstract turntabilism, while his film background and jazz leanings allow him to compose sets that tell a story.

A prolific producer, Tigermoth has multiple solo releases, and is in high demand for his remix and soundtrack work. He has recorded, performed with and supported a vast array of artists including GZA (Wu-Tang Clan), DJ Krush, MF DOOM, Jon Wayne, Guilty Simpson, Phat Kat, Del the Funky Homosapien, Oh No, Kool Keith, EL-P, De La Soul, The Opus, Gaslamp Killer, and Cut Chemist.

TIGERMOTH ‘The Phantom’ is out Friday August 3 through Hydrofunk Records / Keep the Feel Entertainment & distributed by Alphapup Records

UHNELLYS

UHNELLYS have announced the release of their forthcoming EP ‘Zing’ on Hydrofunk Record, alongside the first single and companion video ‘Boxing’ feat. Minjarrah from Indigenoise.

Two-piece indie band Uhnellys are a rising star in Japan. Creating an original structure and sound in which the boundaries of rock, hip-hop, and jazz are blurred, the duo features rapper Kim out front (who also plays varitone guitar and trumpet), and wife Midi on drums and backing vocals.

Uhnellys first crossed paths with Hydrofunk Records when they opened up shop in Japan in 2017, and a collaboration between Tigermoth and Uhnellys produced the Labels first release, a limited-edition Japanese pressing titled ‘Snakecharmer’ and subsequent tour.

Uhnellys headed to Australia in late 2017 to record ‘Zing’ at the Hydrofunk studios, and a new collaboration was born with Indigenous Hip Hop artists Coedie and Minjarrah from Indigenoise who feature on 3 of the 4 tracks on the EP.

With numerous singles, EP’s and Album releases in Japan, Uhnellys EP ‘Zing’ is the band’s first official release in Australia.

With the first pressing selling out in only a matter of weeks in Japan, ‘Zing’ will be released in Australia on Friday July 27 and will be available both digitally and on Vinyl through Hydrofunk Records Hydrofunk Records & MGM

12-Sleeve-3mm-Spine.2 Click to listen and download Hydrofunk Records bestows Ben Walsh, the drummer from Australian electronic legends ‘THE BIRD’ upon the listening masses to coincide with 20 year anniversary with his first solo release

Hydrofunk has released  Remix Experiment digitally worldwide, also now available on  wax.  film clips are  up online as the singles are released along with a short documentary.

Remix Experiment is, was and continues to be a cutting edge experimental way to interact with machines. From the very concept to the application of the idea…

Quality of improvisation and human emotion determining the electronic music is the final outcome, it should be in that order not the other way around. There was no tool for the job I wanted to do, so I had to make it. The music moves so precisely around my grooves, it’s like nothing I’ve heard before….Ben Walsh

Ben Has designed a system to control his machines using his voice and drumsticks while drumming, to allow the electronic elements to follow him. This allows for a very human outcome with no pre-conceived BPM’s or click-tracks, the length and feeling of a track is put back in the hands of the live musician. Every track on the album is a live take & has been filmed to illustrate just how truly unique this is.

…”one of the biggest successes of the Remix Experiment project for me is the fact that I have made my machines so random and work off probability, I had to redo takes because the computers occasionally had a bad pass. This was awesome for me as an electronic programmer to achieve such personality out of my equipment after 5 years of research and development, they behave out of my total control and we can interact with each other, and when we both performed, it was a take”…Ben Walsh Every track is referencing something different, but the one thing bringing it all together is Ben’s masterful, progressive drumming. Every take is a different drum kit setup often using homemade drums, cymbals and junk items to push his sound further. He has also been one of the mixing engineers and worked hard to achieve different drum sounds across the record, treating the whole process as a producer would place his programmed beats, even though every take is live.
